The electrical current in Australia is 240/250 volts AC, 50Hz. The Australian three-pin plug is extremely safe. Adaptors are usually required for most foreign appliances and can be bought in many supermarkets. A transformer may be required if you bring an appliance from overseas that operates on a different voltage.

Australia is the driest inhabited continent in the world. As the population is concentrated where rainfall and runoff are generally plentiful, such as along the southeast coastline, overall population density is very low. Water resources per person are quite sufficient but rainfall is extremely variable in time and place - so averages are a poor indicator, making water supplies difficult to predict. Water reservoirs are in place to cater for this special situation. Some lakes and dams used for town water supply forbid swimming, please be aware of signs indicating where it is safe to swim.
Generally the water quality in Australia is very good and people living in major cities and also in many parts of regional Australia do not require a filter to meet health requirements.
